We are more than half way through the year and we have already learned most of the letters, numbers 1-10 and most of us can write phrases and read simple sentences!
I can not say enough about how amazed I am at how intelligent these children are. I find them reading phrases from the book before me and answering questions very quickly.
Letters of the month are, "U," "V,""O,"&"W." Of course "V" will be done the week of Valentines!
Speaking of which.....We will be having a Valentines Day Party on Feb. 12 so please bring a Valentine for each friend at school. (Just have your child sign their own name, no need to address them to specific children).
This months themes are Keeping Healthy: We will learn about germs and how important it is to wash our hands......LOTS!!! Nutrition and what kinds of foods our bodies need. Sleep and exercise, we will have a Preschool Olympics during the Winter Olympics in Vancouver!! (Watch for the Olympic rings, torch and medals coming home during the last two weeks of February!) We will talk about cooperation not competition, peace, and the importance of having fun while being active. We will also learn more about the Olympics.
We have continued to practice our numbers and letters through games such as "high sticks," "missing number," "abc chart match -up," and reading lots of books.

JANUARY
We had a great time preparing and performing our Christmas Program!! The children are still asking to sing the songs during music time! Thanks for your help and cooperation with it. It is a great opportunity for them to learn to be comfortable speaking in front of larger groups at a young age. They did GREAT!
Letters for January are: "S," "Q," "L," and "J"
We will finish learning how to write numbers "9" and "10" then we will review, and practice, practice, practice! We will practice writing them, counting them, and using manipulatives to represent them. I will also be combing making patterns with the appropriate numbers and doing simple adding and subtracting with manipulatives.
You will notice two different kinds books your child is making at school. The first is one that is about the theme and will have a simple unfinished sentence. After we discuss the topic as a class you child writes the word to fill in the blank. This encourages writing without tracing as well as proper spacing to make a word. It's also great letter writing practice. The second book consists of simple sentences and a picture. We identify the letter of the week by circling it, then we identify sight words we are learning. After the children have identified them we underline them with corresponding colors. Ask your child to "read" the book to you! The more they repeat the sight words the better the remember them when they see them in other contexts and the sooner they gain reading confidence! Watch for the books, we will be using them the rest of the year.

He is brand new to our preschool and we are so happy to have him join us! He has made friends fast and is a very good listener and great at following directions. Welcome Tyler!

DECEMBER
This is going to be a very busy month in Preschool!!
Letters: "B","G","R"
We are also learning how to properly form numbers 1-10. Along with reviewing patterns we will be playing # games such as "high sticks" and "war." These games help children recognize numbers 1-20 and teach them number value, greater than, less than and equal to. We are also counting, counting, counting! We count when we glue, when we jump. when we clean up.....most children can correctly count to at least 30, some can even count to 100!! That is fantastic.
We will be learning about Bears of all kinds and how some bears get ready for the winter. We will be having a Teddy Bear Picnic on Friday December 11th so remember to bring your favorite bear!

We have started separating into small groups to either play high sticks or practice reading, writing, etc. I will be working on each of their own levels for reading as some are more interested than others at this time.
Last but not least, our Christmas Program! Please plan on attending a short Christmas program on Monday, Dec. 21st at 10:15. I will be sending parts home with the children closer to the program. We will be working on this all month and doing many fun activities to prepare for it.

I had to do her name in rainbow colors because that is who she is!! She loves rainbows and always colors in rainbow style!! She is a "standard setter." If anyone needs help she is always there willing and able to help her friends.

NOVEMBER
We had a great time at our Halloween party last week!!
We dressed up, made mummy pizzas, played games, decorated pumpkins, and painted cookies!
Looking ahead to this month.
Letters we will be learning are: "F" "P" "I" and "G"
Our filed trip to the Springville Fire Station will be on Nov. 4th. As part of our safety unit we have been trying really hard to memorize our phone numbers and we will be learning our addresses once we have mastered our phone numbers. Please try to help your child learn any other information pertinent to their safety.
This months themes will be Pilgrims, Native Americans, and of course, Thanksgiving. Which will conclude with our own class "thanksgiving feast" on November 23. (No class on Nov. 25 & 27)
Did you know that we wash our hands as we enter the preschool before we touch anything. I also sanitize the toys every day after we play with them. We are doing all that we can to prevent the spread of germs in preschool as we approach the cold season.
We have learned about "personal space" and have been trying really hard to keep our hands, feet, etc. to ourselves to show respect for others and others property.
As part of our learning about the golden rule we have been filling up our jar with warm fuzzies and will soon earn our stuffed animal party, watch for information on when this will be.

Savannah is a friend to everyone! When others need help she is always ready to help others. We have a mix of children and personalities, but Savannah has learned to be friends with everyone.

October 2009
This months letters are "C,D,L,A"
It is Safety Month.
Which means we will be learning about stranger safety, traffic safety, bike/scooter safety and last but not least fire safety. We will be visiting the new Springville Fire Station for our field trip, date and time TBA!
It is also officially AUTUMN! We love learning about the seasons and what changes occur during each season. Watch for leaf rubs, tree paintings, and wax leaf books.
Our class is currently learning how to "fill the bucket." We "fill the bucket" when we say or do something nice for someone else. When the bucket is full of "warm fuzzies" we will have a special class party! We are learning two songs to help us remember how to treat others, "The Golden Rule," and "Building Others Up."
October is also a fun month because we learn many new fun Halloween songs and silly activities to celebrate Halloween.
Spotlight: JACOB His new favorite color is blue. He is our star performer! He sang a solo for our class of "I've Been Working on the Railroad." He sange every word on tune! (I still can't do that :).)
We are still working on patterns and trying to learn more difficult patterns and understand why and what a pattern is. Legos and blocks are great pattern building tools.

September 2009
We started learning the letters "T" "H" "M" & "N." We will learn the capital and lowercase letters with their sounds.
Math: We are still working on sorting. We sort blocks by color,size, or shape. I also briefly introduced them to classifying and making a simple graph. This week we will be discussing and playing games with direction words, i.e. top, middle, bottom.
Science: Our mini units this month focus on insects and trees. We went on a bug hunt and graphed what we found!
We will also be talking about and pretending to be community helpers! We will be learning about all the services and jobs people on our community do to help us. Our Field Trip to the Post Office is scheduled for September 28th.
These children have imaginations!! This week we discovered that they each have a button in their shoulders that turn them into active participants or help them sit "criss-cross, applesauce!" (Yes, Erin that would be started by Bryson, from Robots!)
